What Leaders are Saying about this book

The title, WOW! What A Ride, doesn’t do this book justice. In fact, it’s a massive understatement. Duke Westover’s lifetime journey is one that will leave you laughing, crying and sitting on the edge of your seat. But most of all, it will leave you realizing how amazing our God truly is to allow us to go through such amazing experiences in life. —Jonathan Falwell Pastor, Thomas Road Baptist Church

Duke Westover is one of those people you meet that you never forget. His story is a fascinating journey filled with incredible experiences at nearly every turn in the road. His life is filled with challenges, obstacles, failures and blessings. From his humble beginning and difficult childhood in Texas, he traces the hand of God in his life at every step of his journey.

I was deeply moved as I read about him and Carlene raising their daughter Kim, who was born with Spina Bifida. Her story of courage, faith and determination is a challenge to all of us who face life’s greatest obstacles. Their devotion as parents is an example for every parent who must trust God to do the impossible in their lives.

My heart was also moved as I read the amazing story of Duke’s commitment to Dr. Jerry Falwell, for whom he worked as executive assistant for more than 30 years. Duke’s close personal relationship with Jerry allowed him to see this great servant of God up close and personal as they worked and traveled together all over the world. He not only shares the story of Dr. Falwell founding the Thomas Road Baptist Church, Liberty University and the Moral Majority, he also reveals incredible stories about Dr. Falwell that have never been in print before – the flying pie, the beignet disaster, the wild ride in the pickup truck and the night Jerry’s pants fell down! You will laugh and cry as Duke takes you along on their amazing journey.

The most captivating story in the book is Duke’s experience of interviewing Muslim terrorists in Bethlehem. Traveling with Craig Winn, who was doing research for a book of his own, Duke met with representatives of Hamas, Hezbollah, Al Fatah, Al Qaeda and Islamic Jihad. The insights he gained from their conversations provide a window into the mind and soul of Islamic extremists. Sit with him. Listen, as he has Tea with Terrorists. Their comments will help you better understand the challenges we face in the Middle East today. Every life is a unique gift of God and Duke’s life has been especially blessed. He has written these memoirs of his journey to encourage fellow travelers on the road of life. Martin Luther once said, “We are not yet what we shall be but we are growing toward it, the process is not yet finished but it is going on, this is not the end but it is the road.” Life is such a road. It is never all joy and no sadness. It is never success without failure or gain without pain. No matter who travels life’s path there will be obstacles to face and pitfalls to avoid. Problems will have to be faced and decisions will have to be made. But in the process, lessons will be learned and new growth will be attained. As you read this amazing book, let your soul be blessed and your heart be challenged.

Life is a pilgrimage. It is a process of growth. There are no shortcuts to success. You can only get there by walking the rough road of life. Never content with the temporal, we press on to the eternal. Every step of faith takes us further on the journey. And sometimes God blesses us with the ride of a lifetime. This is the story of just such a ride. Read it. Enjoy it. Experience it for yourself. For what God has done for Duke, He can do for you.
